Raymond you are a Legend!!

Posted on June 14, 2012

22 Years ago today, Raymond started his relationship with the Kruger Family who own Leopard Hills.

Raymond started off as a young man working on the Ululapa Property for Louis Kruger, doing many and any odd jobs that came his way. He became an accomplished builder and a “jack of all trades” in the early years, working his way up into the Tracking Position.

14 years ago when we opened Leopard Hills, we were very fortunate to secure Raymond’s services with us here at the Lodge, I am sure Louis has still not forgiven me!!!!

Raymond’s knowledge of the bush is legendary and he has worked his way up through the ranks to that of one of our Senior Rangers. It has been such a joy for Louise and I to have worked with Raymond and to have had him as a friend over all these years.

Raymond we salute you and thank you for being the man you are, always setting the highest example to all around you, and for having taught me so much about the bush over the years we worked together as Ranger and Tracker.

I know I speak on behalf of the Kruger Family when I say the love and respect they have for you is not only genuine, but heartfelt.

The Picture below is of Louis Kruger and Raymond, Louis often tells me Raymond is like a son to him………he is family to all of us.

  1. Congratulations to Raymond. Our visit in 2010 was made all the more memorable for 2 things; the opportunity to have dinner with Mr. Kruger and to accompany Raymond on his first sighting of an ostrich. His excitement was infectious.

  2. Raymondo – legend. Working with the Kruger’s AND Dunx and Lou for that lenght of time…you get less for murder.
Congratulations, and remember the animals won’t harm you, they are your friend.

  3. Raymond was our guide when we visited. There is a quality about him that just shined through. He is a wonderful representative of his country and all things beautiful about the land of South Africa.

  4. My first visit to the Sands, Raymond was my tracker and introduced me to Makwela. With great joy, we returned to have Raymond as our guide. He set the standard for us and unfortunately for many trackers and guides, they did not shine as bright. Raymond, you the best.

  5. Ray, you legend!! Don’t worry boet, I have not sold my car yet. I will give it to you,… if you can transfer just one months knowledge and insight from your 22 years. What an incredible run of service bud. May the sightings and experiences get better and better.

  7. On my first visit to Leopard hills back in 2003, Raymond was our tracker, Then he took several of us on a noontime walk and showed us many "small life" things that I would never have noticed.
His enthusiasm was infectious and his knowledge was impressive. I have seen and talked to him on subsequent visits.
    It’s always a pleasure.
Oh yes, one more thing. He is also very discreet. During our last visit last year, we were having a drink before dinner, and he quietly took me aside to whisper in my ear that my fly was unzipped!
    Thank you, Raymond!

  8. All of the above and MORE! (except for the unzipped fly 🙂 )Raymond you rock and we have so enjoyed your guiding our drives on two glorious visits to LH in 07 and 10. Hope to return in a year or two…darn, we live half way across the world and I do so miss South Africa and you all. Repelile from California. Joy

  9. An example of someone who has really made a difference in his life & in the lives of the people around him!! It takes a special person to want to learn, grow & accomplish all that Raymond has – well done Raymond!!!

  11. Congratulations Raymond! Through the years you have taught Stuart, Wesley and I so much about the bush. You focus on not on finding animals (which you always do) but you will stop for the smallest insect to teach us about it. You have been an inspiration to my family. Thank you and well done, the Leopard Hills family is blessed to have you.

  12. Wow 22 years of service and knowledge in the bush! Raymond you deserve every accolade that comes your way

  13. Hi Raymond, on my last trip to Leopard Hills you were my ranger, you were fantastic at your job, even finding a giraffe up a tree!!!! (it was dead), we really did have a good laugh. Congratulations on all you have achieved & lots of luck for the next 22 years +

  14. I have not had the pleasure of meeting you Raymond, but with all the wonderful accolades, I imagine you must be one of the best!. I can’t imagine what life stories you have to tell… Maybe one day you can write some of your most memorable moments for us to all enjoy…
    Thank you for you service.

  15. Raymond

You are indeed a legend; our trip to Leopard Hills in 2010 would not have been so memorable without you. When we return next year hopefully we shall stipulate that you would be our ranger.
