Big 5 in two game drives while at Leopard Hills – Thanks Gary!
While on safari, we stayed at various 5-star lodges in the Kruger National Park and Sabi Sands. However, the level of service and game viewing experience at Leopard Hills is beyond compare. We did not have a lot of time to spend at Leopard Hills and we asked Gary to show us the Big 5 (of course thinking that this is highly unlikely). In just two very exciting game drives, he proved to us that in the Sabi Sands it is possible.
On the 9th of March, we arrived at Leopard Hills, just in time for the evening game drive. Gary took us to a waterhole where there were about 20 buffalos including some calves, and a crocodile trying to make a meal of one of the calves. At the other side of the waterhole there was tension between two hippos and a buffalo. We did not know where to look. This was truly a Kodak moment. Later that evening, we also tracked down a leopard. Gary went off-road to try and get in front of the leopard so that we can get a better view of her. He stopped in the road as the leopard came walking towards the vehicle. Once she got to the vehicle, she stopped to look at us, then she went under the vehicle and came out the other side as if this was an everyday occurrence. Gary, you truly had us at the edge of our seats. Thank you for adding to this wonderful experience at Leopard Hills.
