Mapogos near the lodge

Posted on November 8, 2010

Great way to start the afternoon drive

After a wonderful morning, watching Hlaba Nkunze and her two cubs move from the area where they were in the tree with the lions, through the library and into the lodge, we were quite excited for the afternoon drive.

We went down to the water hole in front of the lodge to go and have a closer look at two male lions ( mapogos ) sleeping next to the watering hole. Not knowing we were going to get a lot more than we thought. They didn‘t look like they were going to move at all, so none of our cameras were set up for action.

This was incredible with the lodge in the background.

Apologies for the shaky footage, as it was a scramble to get my camera ready to take the video..

What a great afternoon!!

  1. Thanks so much for sharing this Heinrich. This is one of the sounds I miss the most when I am away from South Africa. I just closed my eyes and pretended to be there.
